Weather in Seychelles in July

Is July a good time to visit Seychelles?

The Seychelles islands in July are relatively cool and dry, compared to the sticky heat of the preceding “wet season”. July falls in the height of the season during which the trade winds blow in from the south-east, mitigating the equatorial temperature and chasing away the humidity and threat of tropical rainfall, but whipping up the sea. It is a comfortable time of year to visit Seychelles, but it can be very breezy on the beach (north-westerly facing beaches are more sheltered).

Climate in Seychelles in July

July in the Seychelles is the driest month, with around 70mm being the average rainfall across the month, this falling as light showers often during the night or late afternoon. July is also the coolest month of the year in the tropical Seychelles, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 28°C. This is because July is the peak of  the north-westerly trade wind season, when cool, dry winds blow across the islands from the southern latitudes, tempering the heat and humidity.

What to do in Seychelles in July

The Seychelles islands are a mecca for keen fisherfolk, as well as anyone looking for fun in the sun, and in July each year the Marine Charter Association – based in the yacht harbor in the capital, Victoria – holds the popular Atlas one-day fishing tournament. This annual event is in aid of charity, and offers a grueling day of trolling in the choppy seas around the islands.

What to pack for a holiday in the Seychelles in July

Although July may rate as the closest the Seychelles islands get to “wintry” weather, most visitors from more southerly or northerly climes will still find it very warm, so light, loose clothing, swimwear and sandals are the order of the day. In the evenings a light cover-up may be helpful to ward of the chill of a rain shower or brisk breeze. Don’t forget the sun cream, sun glasses and a hat.
